MEET THE TIGERS
Meet The Tigers is our annual community pep rally that celebrates all that’s good at Stony Point High School. The event centers around recognizing all of the student organizations as well as having the “Tiger Marketplace,” where you can find any and all types of SPHS TIGER apparel and souvenirs. The Market place will be open from 5:30 - 6:30 pm, close during the parade and pep rally, and reopen until 8:00 pm. The Tiger Band and Tiger Dancers will perform at the pep rally and this performance is mandatory for all band members. Bring the family and take part in this school-wide celebration!
6:00 pm Students report to band hall wearing their band shirt

FROM MR. GREENE

RRISD INSTRUMENT USAGE FEES

Every student using a school owned instrument must complete a form and pay the RRISD Instrument Usage Fee of $50.00. This fee covers all normal wear-and-tear maintenance and repair on the instrument. We still have a few students who have not completed the form nor paid their fee. Please do so as soon as possible. Not sure if you’ve taken care of it? See Mr. Greene.

FROM THE BOOSTERS

IMPT. INFO. FOR CHAPERONES, UNIFORM MOMS & PIT DADS!!

In an effort to comply with RRISD policy, if you are serving as a chaperone, pit dad or uniform mom, we must request that you complete the “Volunteer and Mentor Application” on the district’s website - http://www.roundrockisd.org/index.aspx?page=3346. This once-a-year, name-based criminal background check takes only a five minutes of your time but provides the district with another layer of security for our students. If you are unable to complete this at home, we will have computers available on game days. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your support.

HAVE YOU SEEN OUR MISSING DOLLY?

Rene Salinas, our SPABB Concessionaire, reported that we are missing a red two-wheeled dolly that is utilized by our concessions. It is labeled “SPHS BAND BOOSTERS” in black Sharpie marker. The SPABB owns four of the same dollies, yet we can only locate three. Please check your garage and see if you took this home by mistake. Rene has a hard time sleeping without his dolly, so all help is greatly appreciated!

Have a gr-r-r-r-reat week, Tiger Band!

CLARIFICATION:
Important questions arose from the most recent weekly update concerning completing the RRISD Volunteer and Mentor Application.
“What is the RRISD Volunteer and Mentor Application?”
As an added measure to improve student safety, Round Rock Independent School District requires any person wishing to volunteer agree to a Name Based Criminal History Check each school year. This is in addition to the Raptor System, which compares all visitor names against sexual offender databases and is currently implemented at all RRISD campuses. The on-line application is available through the district website and takes only minutes to complete. The web address is: http://www.roundrockisd.org/index.aspx?page=3346
“Why is this such an important matter now?”
Since I have been the SPHS band director, neither I nor the SPABB (Stony Point Area Band Boosters) have required our volunteers to complete this process. As such, we have been out of compliance with school district policy. It was brought to my attention that both the boosters and I could be held liable if an incident were to occur involving an unapproved chaperone and a student. I sincerely apologize to all parents, both past and pesent, for putting your children at risk. So as not to tempt fate, we are now asking all parents who would like to chaperone to complete the application. In the future, this will become part of the band registration process.
“Who has to complete the application?”
From this point, all pit dads, chaperones and uniform moms will be required to complete this simple five-minute application. If you are unable to do so from home, we will have computers available at the school before the next couple of games. Even if you are not currently chaperoning, please think ahead - this application will required of all play-olff game chapreones as well as Spring Trip and Lock-In chaperones.

“If I work for RRISD, do I have to complete the Volunteer/Mentor Application?”
If you are a RRISD employee, you have already completed the background check as part of your employment process. You do not have to complete the Volunteer/Mentor Application.
“Does this violate my confidentiality?”
No, the district website is secure and any information you give is held completely confidential. By each Friday, I must submit a list of names to our school secretary, who, in turn, will compare that list to the list of approved volunteers given to her by RRISD. If, for whatever reason, your name is not approved, you will received a letter from the district. No RRISD employee (other than central office personnel overseeing this process) has access to any information concerning the reasons why anyone is unapproved.
“What if I refuse to complete the application?”
If you are wanting to chaperone, I would first ask that you reconsider your decision. This application is kept completely confidential and only serves to protect our students. However, if you feel that you are unable to complete the application for any reason, I would respectfully ask that you do not serve in any position that could potentially place you in contact with a student outside of the presence of an RRISD employee (i.e. chaperones, uniform moms, pit dads).

As always, thanks for your support. Should you have any questions, please contact my office, 512-428-7184.

Wow - what a great first week of Summer Band! The kids did an awesome job - despite the triple digit heat! Good work wearing the appropriate clothes and staying hydrated! Many thanks to Mrs. Hocher and our uniform moms - we’re just a few students away from having everyone fit for their marching uniforms! Thanks to those students and parents who worked the Pet Clinic last Wednesday - we had our highest return ever on that event - over $1000!
Dell Employees: did you know you can donate to the Stony Point Area Band Boosters through Dell Direct Giving and Dell will match dollar for dollar up to $10,000? If you sign up before September 30th you can still take advantage of the match for calendar year 2010. Donations can be made through payroll deduction or you can send checks directly to Dell Direct Giving. Dell pays 100% of the administrative costs so 100% of the employees’ contribution and match will be sent to Stony Point Area Band Boosters.

CAR WASH FUNDRAISER
Our annual Car Wash Fundraiser is set for Saturday, August 21st. This extremely profitable fundraiser benefits BOTH students’ trip account as well as our Band Boosters. Please note that participation is mandatory for all band members. Car Wash Teams and sites are posted on the board at the front of the bandhall. At this point, students should be doing two things: 1) asking everyone they know to pledge 1¢for every car the Tiger Band can wash on Aug. 12th and 2) getting commitments from the owners of at least 10 cars to come to their site for a FREE car wash. As with any activity, the more the students put into the, the greater the reward. Let’s set our goal to have the most successful Car Wash in Tiger Band history! WE CAN DO IT! (Don’t forget to mark your calendar - our annual Car Wash is always followed in the evening by our Back-To-School Pool Party!)
