Weekly Update: Week of 12/7

Dear Tiger Band parents & students,

First, we want to say congratulations to our 2009-2010 Region 26 band members! These four students competed and were selected to perform with the Region 26 Band in January. Congrats to Tyler H. (Concert Band Baritone), Josh C. (Concert Band Trumpet) Matthew C. (Concert Band Percussion) and Bryant K. (Symphonic Band Alto Sax).

Looks like there’s no stoppin’ that SPHS Tiger football team! Here is your schedule for next week:

  • Monday, 12/7 -Philharmonic Orch Rehearsal 7:00 - 8:45 am; Symphony Orch Rehearsal from 4:30 - 6;00 pm; NOTE: the Proposed Band Winter Concert listed on your calendar was changed to Dec. 12 when we received our dates from the Performing Arts Center. Now, due to the playoff game, we are canceling the Winter Concert this year. See below for more explanation. Sorry - :-(
  • Tuesday, 12/8 - Jazz Band rehearsal from 7:00 - 8:30 am; no after school rehearsals; SPHS Prchestra Winter Concert, 7:00 pm in the SPHS Cafetorium. (performers need to be there by 6:30 pm); Courtside Players meet at the bandhall at 7:00 pm.
  • Wednesday, 12/9 - no before or after school rehearsals
  • Thursday, 12/10 - Jazz Band rehearsal from 7:00 - 8:30 am; Marching Rehearsal 4:30 - 5:30 pm (Last week was just too cold!)
  • Friday, 12/11 - no before or after school rehearsals; Wind Ensemble performs in the library during all lunches; Due to playoffs, Christmas Caroling has been cancelled for this year.
  • Saturday, 12/12 - SPHS vs. Euless Trinity (trip itinerary below)

    • SPHS v Euless Trinity Schedule
    11:00 am - Students arrive at bandhall
    11:30 am - buses depart for Waco ISD Stadium
    2:00 pm - SPHS beats Euless Trinity
    5:30 pm - depart Waco ISD Stadium
    7:00 pm - return to SPHS bandhall

    Here are some answers to questions concerning the Winter Concert:
    Q: Why can’t we have the concert in the SPHS Cafeteria?
    A: We’ve done that before, without pleasant results. There is not nearly enough seating and the seating that is available is uncomfortable for that period of time. The temperature is difficult to regulate (affecting comfort and tuning) and the acoustics in the cafeteria are not condusive for a band concert.
    Q: What happened to the date on the calendar?
    A: The date printed on the calendar was a proposed date due to the fact the PAC scheduling committee had not met prior to printing. After their meeting, we received the date of Sat., Dec, 12 for our concert. (Saturday was our third choice for dates.)
    Q: Can’t we do the concert next week (Dec. 14-18)?
    A: No - the week of final exams is considered a “dead week” by the school district. No after school activities are allowed to give students the opportunity to study for finals.
