PRIVATE LESSONS MAKE YOU A BETTER MUSICIAN
Our private lesson teachers should be contacting you to introduce them selves within the next two weeks to give you information about their studio and answer any question you may have about taking private lessons. ALL STUDENTS are encouraged to take privately - these once a week, one-on-one sessions with a professional that plays your instrument can greatly improve your playing ability. Scholarships are still available through the Boosters if you complete the form and turn it in to Ms. Benford.
FROM THE BOOSTERS
WORKING CONCESSIONS - WE NEED YOU!
By this time, every family should have received information concerning their concession assignments for this football season. Working the concession stands is our most profitable fundraiser of the year and it takes everyone helping out to be successful. If you find you are unable to fulfill you obligation, please contact your stand manager immediately.
IMPT. INFO. FOR CHAPERONES, UNIFORM MOMS & PIT DADS!!
In an effort to comply with RRISD policy, if you are serving as a chaperone, pit dad or uniform mom, we must request that you complete the “Volunteer and Mentor Application” on the district’s website - http://www.roundrockisd.org/index.aspx?page=3346. This once-a-year, name-based criminal background check takes only a five minutes of your time but provides the district with another layer of security for our students. If you are unable to complete this at home, we will have computers available on game days. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your support. See CLARIFICATIONS below for FAQs.
GATTILAND COUPON BOOKS SUPER SALE - FOR A LIMITED TIME ONLY!
Can’t get enough of an all-you-can-eat pizza buffet and a mind-boggling game room with the opportunity to earn fabulous prizes? Well, we have a deal for you! The Boosters have recently acquired a small cache of GattiLand coupon books that are set to expire in December of this year. These books contain BOGO coupons for adult and kid’s buffets, as well as coupons for game play credits! They normally sell for $10/each; however, due to the expiration date, Gattiland is allowing us to sell them for only $5.00 (an expense EASILY reimbursed in only one visit)!! Mrs. Linda Cudmore is your go-to gal for this deal. She will have the books at Applebee’s on Saturday and Monday afternoon’s practice, but don’t delay - they go on sale at the kiosk and concession stands at Friday’s game. With only 75 books to available, I’m sure they will sell out faster than you can say, “Pink Glitter Lava Lamp!” So, be the world’s most popular parent - buy your GattiLand Coupon Book today!
Congratulations, Tiger Band!

CLARIFICATION:
Important questions arose from the most recent weekly update concerning completing the RRISD Volunteer and Mentor Application.
“What is the RRISD Volunteer and Mentor Application?”
As an added measure to improve student safety, Round Rock Independent School District requires any person wishing to volunteer agree to a Name Based Criminal History Check each school year. This is in addition to the Raptor System, which compares all visitor names against sexual offender databases and is currently implemented at all RRISD campuses. The on-line application is available through the district website and takes only minutes to complete. The web address is: http://www.roundrockisd.org/index.aspx?page=3346
“Why is this such an important matter now?”
Since I have been the SPHS band director, neither I nor the SPABB (Stony Point Area Band Boosters) have required our volunteers to complete this process. As such, we have been out of compliance with school district policy. It was brought to my attention that both the boosters and I could be held liable if an incident were to occur involving an unapproved chaperone and a student. I sincerely apologize to all parents, both past and pesent, for putting your children at risk. So as not to tempt fate, we are now asking all parents who would like to chaperone to complete the application. In the future, this will become part of the band registration process.
“Who has to complete the application?”
From this point, all pit dads, chaperones and uniform moms will be required to complete this simple five-minute application. If you are unable to do so from home, we will have computers available at the school before the next couple of games. Even if you are not currently chaperoning, please think ahead - this application will required of all play-olff game chapreones as well as Spring Trip and Lock-In chaperones.
“If I work for RRISD, do I have to complete the Volunteer/Mentor Application?”
If you are a RRISD employee, you have already completed the background check as part of your employment process. You do not have to complete the Volunteer/Mentor Application.
“Does this violate my confidentiality?”
No, the district website is secure and any information you give is held completely confidential. By each Friday, I must submit a list of names to our school secretary, who, in turn, will compare that list to the list of approved volunteers given to her by RRISD. If, for whatever reason, your name is not approved, you will received a letter from the district. No RRISD employee (other than central office personnel overseeing this process) has access to any information concerning the reasons why anyone is unapproved.
“What if I refuse to complete the application?”
If you are wanting to chaperone, I would first ask that you reconsider your decision. This application is kept completely confidential and only serves to protect our students. However, if you feel that you are unable to complete the application for any reason, I would respectfully ask that you do not serve in any position that could potentially place you in contact with a student outside of the presence of an RRISD employee (i.e. chaperones, uniform moms, pit dads).
As always, thanks for your support. Should you have any questions, please contact my office, 512-428-7184.
